The current singing membership of GCCS is about 40, drawn from all parts of the city and beyond. We are a friendly choir with a diverse membership who share a love of music as well as appreciating the social benefits of choral singing! We are privileged to be able to perform in the beautiful surroundings of Glasgow Cathedral.
Rehearsals take place September to June on Thursday evenings from 7.30 - 9.30pm, in Woodlands Methodist Church in the West End of Glasgow. Entry to the choir is by a short audition. Potential new members are welcome to try out a few rehearsals before deciding to audition. We currently have vacancies for new members in all voice sections so if you are interested in joining us please get in touch!
Our conductor JAMES SLIMINGS, who joined us in 2013, has recently graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where he studied singing with Amand Hekkers. As a singer, he has been involved many times in collaborations with Scottish Opera, often taking solos. As a conductor, James is also musical director of The Kilbarchan Singers, Hadley Court Singers and Glasgow Caledonian University Choir. He is also involved as a conductor and pianist with the RCS Junior Department. In 2012-13 James was the Alexander Gibson Fellow for the RSNO, taking rehearsals in preparation for conductors such as Sir Andrew Davies and Donald Runnicles. He also works with the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain as a section leader on Training, Boys and Changing Voices courses and is a member of the National Youth Chamber Choir of Great Britain. As an educator, James has given workshops for the Princes’ Teaching Institute in association with the University of Cambridge on ‘Building a Vocal Ensemble’.
